Notational Velocity Mac is a very simple app for storing notes. Notational Velocity presents your notes in a two-pane window, with a listing of notes above, and the content of the current note below. The app stores your notes as rich text in separate files within the Notational Velocity note repository. You can opt to store notes as text files, or as HTML. It can’t store images or other documents, and you can’t group your notes into separate hierarchies.
A search field at the top filters the note listing so you see only the notes that match. The user interface contains little else—Notational Velocity was designed for use without a mouse, so its window has no buttons. The two modes of operation are note creation, and note search.
Notational Velocity syncs your notes to your other devices using the Simplenote note sync service, and through Dropbox.

Notational Velocity Mac is an example of the adage, “You get what you pay for.” Notational Velocity can no doubt store lots of (simple) notes, but if you get that far you will have difficulty finding those notes again when you need them.
